Gfx editors and utilities

This is a small selection of graphic editors and utilities for some of the platforms allowed on the competition.

Atari

Atari Interlaced Studio 1.4.7 (Windows): Graphic editor with support for many graphic modes, including interlaced ones. Can export as executable files (.XEX). Link

Apple

Ghetto Image Converter (PC): PPM to HGR2 image converter, requires a PC with lua 5.1. Link

Commodore

NUFLI editor (C-64): NUFLI editor. Link

Project One (Windows): Editor/Converter for Hires/Multicolor/AFLI/FLI/IFLI/Drazlace modes. Link

GangEd (Windows): Very basic Hires/Multicolor & semigraphic modes editor.  Can export Hires/Multicolor as executables. Link

ConGo (Windows): Image viewer/converter, can export Hires/Multicolor/IFLI/FLI/MCI as executables. Link

MSX

MSX Paint IV (MSX2): Screen 5, 6, 7 y 8 editor. Requires mouse. Link

piroPaint 9918 (Windows): Screen 2 editor. Link

MSX Screen Conversor (Web): PNG/GIF/JPEG to Screen 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 y 12 converter. Link

Sinclair

OCP Art Studio (Spectrum 48K): Complete graphic editor. Link

ZXpaintyONE (Web): ZX-81 semigraphics editor, written in HTML5. Link

ZX-Paintbrush (Windows): SCREEN$ editor for the ZX-Spectrum. Link

Games: Penguino by Jim Gerrie updated

Title screenJim Gerrie has sent in a new version of his game Penguino, three new versions in fact:

  • Penguino Original: The definitive version and the one that will enter the competition.
  • Penguino Fast: This is a faster version which makes it too hard to play on the emulator due to lag in the keyboard emulation.
  • Penguino Special: Alternative version with a new chase algorithm for the enemies.

The file contains all the .C10 image files for each version and also the corresponding source code files in txt format. Check Readme.txt to learn more about the differences bethween versions.

New entry submit method

Submit your workA week ago there’s a new way to submit  your entries to the competition: directly from this site.

Simply by clicking the ‘Submit your work!’ menu on top of the page you”ll access a form which you have to fill with the following data:

  1. Entry name
  2. Category (BASIC games, Graphics or Music)
  3. Plataform
  4. Entry description
  5. Tools used
  6. Name(s)/Nick(s) or Handle(s) of the author(s)
  7. Contact e-mail

And of course the file containing the entry (Compressed in zip, rar, 7z or tgz format )

 

After submitting the form you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail if everything went ok.

Games: Penguino by Jim Gerrie

Title screen Jim Gerrie enters the competition with Penguino, a BASIC game for the Radio Shack TRS-80 MC-10.

  • Platform: Radio Shack TRS-80 MC-10 with 16KB RAM expansion.
  • Tools used: Virtual MC10 v0.73C emulator by Emucompboy

 

gameplay

The archivo contains the .c10 tape image for use with the emulator and the source code in text format.

To load the game on the emulator, type CLOAD<enter> then go to “File->Play Cassette file…” menu and select the PENGUINO.C10 file, once loaded, type RUN<enter> to play.
Another option is to use the “File-> Quick Type” menu to load the source code file: PENGUINO3.TXT

The archive contains the game inside a disk image (.dsk) and the programming notes in text format.
